La Dama Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2012 *sold out*

$79.00

This is the flagship wine that the Valpolicella region is most famous for.  Amarone is a concentration of aromas and flavors. The La Dama Amarone comes only from grapes harvested in vineyards that are more than 20 years old, where the elegance, the great power and the longevity are its most essential features.

The colour is an intense ruby red and dark purple. The aroma of liquer cherries, dried plums, spices and tobacco leads into a mouthful of oak, vanilla, raisins and silky smooth tannins, with a hint of sweetness whilst still retaining a slight acidity.

Description

This is the flagship wine that the Valpolicella region is most famous for.  Amarone is a concentration of aromas and flavors. The La Dama Amarone comes only from grapes harvested in vineyards that are more than 20 years old, where the elegance, the great power and the longevity are its most essential features.

The colour is an intense ruby red and dark purple. The aroma of liquer cherries, dried plums, spices and tobacco leads into a mouthful of oak, vanilla, raisins and silky smooth tannins, with a hint of sweetness whilst still retaining a slight acidity.

Grapes, wine-making, ageing: only the loose bunches of the Corvina 70%, Corvinone 10%, Rondinella15% and Molinara 5% which are the ripest and best exposed to the sun are selected, and then placed in boxes to dry for 100 days in natural fruit-drying rooms. The pressing, that happens both in steel and wooden vats, is carried out in January, when all the aromas are most concentrated. The fermentation is 30 to 40 days, then the wine is refined in barrels for 36 months. At last the wine is left to further refine in bottles for at least one year before being sold.

Serving temperature: 18 – 20°c
